Sew-In Project: February 8th - Easy Ten Minute Table Runner & Coasters

Hi everyone!
Our first Sew-In Project scheduled for 2014 will actually be two projects! You can choose to do either or both projects, and they are completely optional.  Carolyne Stanton, the 1st President of the PMQG (hooray) will be teaching both of these projects on February 8th, and she's given us the following supply lists, so bring your fabric to make a nice matching set for yourself, or some great gifts for someone you know. I might even make some Christmas themed ones. Too early?

Ten Minute Table Runner:
This easy table runner, doesn't take much fabric and is a great project for a beginner or a seasoned sewist.

You will need:
"Theme" print: 1 piece of quilting cotton 10 - 12" wide x WOF (Width Of Fabric = 44")
"Co-ordinating" print: 1 piece of quilting cotton 18" wide x WOF
Matching or contrasting thread for topstitching, depending on the look you are after.

Easy Coasters:
Make these coasters to match your table runner or in completely different fabrics. They work great with wine glasses ;)
HINT:  A Charm pack would work great for this project.

You will need:
(5)   5" to 5 1/2" Squares of coordinating or contrasting fabric for each coaster
or
(20) 5" to 5 1/2" Squares for a 4 coaster set.

** These projects will sew up pretty quickly, so make sure you bring something else to work on for the rest of your afternoon.  Don't forget your inside shoes, your travel mug and any snacks you may need.

Looking forward to seeing you there,

Janelle

UPDATE: Scheduled Sewing Events!

Whoop Whoop! We've added a new calendar page to the blog. It's right up there in the tab bar, can you see it? Go there to find out when we've scheduled our "Sew-In Saturdays" for the next few months, as well as planned "Sew-In Projects".

Watch for upcoming additions to the calendar, such as UFO weekends.  If you are newbie... that's an Un-Finished Objects sewing weekend where our sewing room at the Stony Plain & Parkland Pioneer Museum will be open for weekend sewing. Bring everything you've got and drop-in (and out) and back in again for marathon project finishing.

About Sew-In Projects:

A couple of weeks before the project is scheduled, we'll have a blog post on here with all of your supplies and prep work (if required).  You will be able to hover over the scheduled event on the Events Calendar to get more information too. There will also be Project Links on the right sidebar of this page.

A Few Words About The Calendar:
  • You may have noticed, we have not planned any Sew-In Saturdays on long weekends, and during major events at the Pioneer Museum.
  • Events are subject to change, and we'll try to give you as much notice as possible if this happens.
  • Sew-In Projects are optional and taught, for the most part, by volunteers in our Guild.

Follow us here on the Blog and Facebook, to keep up to date on the latest news.
A Newsletter, is in the making as well.

Questions or comments welcome!!

May all of your bobbins be full,

February 1st, 2014 - Registration Day!!

Hi future PMQG'ers!

We are working hard on getting all of the details worked out for Registration Day, and one of those items is deciding on a great (optional) beginners quilting project to get the year started. So get your WIP projects ready to bring if you've got them, and watch this space for a supplies list if you want to participate in a fun sewing project for Feb 1st!!

Plan on arriving at the Stony Plain & Parkland Pioneer Museum around 10:00 am to register for the year. There will be a Saturday sewing drop in fee of $5.00 to use the space.  You only need to pay this on the Saturdays you can make it.  Saturdays will be drop in, so you can come when you can and only the weeks that work for you.

We are working on some ideas for fundraising for our Guild supplies, as well as planning a raffle quilt with proceeds to a local charity.

Some ideas we have for quick (optional) quilting projects on Saturdays are:

- Quilt blocks for the Raffle Quilt
- Grocery Bag holders
- Hot Pads and Pot Holders
- Aprons
- Pin Cushions
- Tote baskets
- Table Runners
- Mini Quilts

Check back here THIS WEEK for the supplies list for our optional Quick Sew Project of the week!
